Esther Passaris has pulled out of the Makadara MP race, saying Nairobi residents convinced her to stay in the Woman Representative seat.

The Nairobi Woman Representative revealed that her decision followed consultations with residents, ODM party leaders and opinion polls.

Passaris said her plan to contest Makadara was genuine. But as she moved around Nairobi, she claims residents kept asking the same question:

“What about us? Don’t we matter? We don’t want to lose you as our Woman Rep, Mama.”

That feedback, she said, changed the direction of her 2027 political plans.

Passaris will now defend her Nairobi Woman Representative seat for a third term in the 2027 General Election. She formally announced the bid on August 22, even launching a campaign song.

Her Makadara ambitions had emerged in February when she said the MP position would give her an opportunity to contribute more directly to the constituency’s development.

She had reportedly settled on Makadara because the seat was expected to become vacant, with incumbent MP George Aladwa linked to a Nairobi gubernatorial bid.

Now Passaris says the message from Nairobi has become clear.

She is staying put.

She also vowed to keep the Nairobi Woman Rep seat within the ODM and broad-based coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
