Super Mario is Expected To Have The Second-biggest Five-day Opening For an Illumination Title
This weekend, Universal’s release of Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros Movie is expected to break numerous box office records by surpassing Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s $106 million opening.
The animated video game adaptation premiered on Wednesday, earning an estimated $26 million, and is projected to generate $86 million in three days and $128 million in five days.
Super Mario is expected to have the second-biggest five-day opening for an Illumination title, following Despicable Me 2’s $143 million debut ten years ago.
The film revolves around two plumber brothers, voiced by Chris Pratt and Charlie Day, who get caught in a dispute between warring factions when they’re transported to a magical world, based on the incredibly popular video game franchise.
