Larry Madowo has fired back at critics questioning why he attended Charlene Ruto’s traditional engagement ceremony.
The CNN international correspondent was among the high-profile guests at Charlene Ruto and Tanzanian tech entrepreneur Isaya Yunge’s Koito in Kilgoris, Narok County, on Saturday.
Madowo was seen interacting with President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto, triggering a heated reaction online.
Some critics accused the journalist of betraying them, pointing to his previous coverage of the Ruto administration.
But Madowo appeared unfazed.
His response was blunt:
“Cancel Larry Madowo.”
The journalist is reportedly a longtime friend of Isaya Yunge, which may explain his presence at the private family celebration.
The episode has since reignited Kenya’s growing “cancel culture” debate, particularly over public figures who interact with politicians they have previously criticised.
For now, Madowo appears to have made his position clear.
