“John Wick” Director Unsure On Franchise Future Despite Lionsgate’s Sequel Announcement
Chad Stahelski, the director of the John Wick franchise, recently shared his uncertainty about the prospects of John Wick 5 and the direction the franchise should take.
In John Wick: Chapter 4, it appeared that the action film series had reached its conclusion, as John (played by Keanu Reeves) died after finally being released from his obligations to the High Table.
However, despite John’s apparent demise, Lionsgate announced in May that John Wick 5 is currently in development, indicating their intention to continue the franchise.
During an interview with Empire, Stahelski revealed his ambivalence regarding the narrative direction of John Wick 5, which raises doubts about the film’s actual production.
The director expressed his internal conflict, torn between concluding the series with John Wick: Chapter 4 or moving forward with the creation of John Wick 5.
In the event that John Wick 5 proceeds, it is likely that the movie will disclose John’s faked death, a scheme he employed to protect himself from the High Table’s pursuit.
Nevertheless, the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4 provided a gratifying resolution to John’s character arc, and resurrecting him from the dead could potentially diminish its impact.
