An Embakasi East MCA is spending the night in police custody after detectives raided his Nairobi office and allegedly recovered a Glock pistol loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition.
Patrick Karani, the MCA for Embakasi East Sub-County, was arrested on Monday alongside two other suspects during a DCI operation in the Roasters area.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives seized a Glock pistol and a magazine loaded with 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition from Karani’s office. The firearm was immediately secured as evidence.
The DCI says preliminary investigations revealed the weapon was being held without a valid firearm licence, a criminal offence under Kenyan law.
“Three suspects, including a Member of County Assembly (MCA), are now behind bars following a police operation at the Roasters area of Nairobi that led to the recovery of a Glock pistol,” the agency stated.
The three suspects remain in custody as detectives finalize investigations and prepare for their court appearance.
The arrest adds to a growing list of high-profile political figures facing scrutiny from investigators.
Just hours earlier, Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai surrendered to detectives and was detained at Nakuru Central Police Station over violent clashes that disrupted a youth empowerment event last week. The incident reportedly left three people nursing gunshot wounds.
At the same time, pressure is mounting on Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika after the Senate Committee on National Security ordered her arrest for repeatedly failing to honour summons linked to ongoing investigations.
With politicians, firearms, and fresh arrests dominating headlines, security agencies appear to be tightening the net on leaders facing serious legal questions.
