In the Middle East, the blockbuster film “Barbie” is facing contrasting reactions, despite the film’s rapid global success.

While comedian Bill Maher criticized it for being “man-hating,” it has been banned in Kuwait due to concerns about promoting unacceptable behavior and distorting societal values.

In Lebanon, known for its relative liberalism in the region regarding LGBTQ issues, the culture minister criticized the film for promoting homosexuality and challenging family values, leading to a likely ban after a government review.

Despite these bans, “Barbie” is set for release in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, with an unclear status on potential edits requested by the censor.
